Implemented in the July 2023 Version Update, players can now decide when to start the opening scenes for missions that are triggered automatically when traveling between areas in the game. The following scenarios may be deferred to a later time of the player's choosing:

* [[Rise of the Zilart Missions]]
* [[Chains of Promathia Missions]]
* [[A Crystalline Prophecy Missions]]
* [[A Shantotto Ascension Missions]]
* [[Abyssea_Storyline_Quests|Vision of Abyssea Missions]]
* [[Seekers of Adoulin Missions]]
* [[Rhapsodies of Vana'diel Missions]]

After declining to begin each of the above scenarios, a placeholder Mission will be added to that player's Mission List. Additionally, a '''Tales' Beginning''' will be made available and marked on the player's map. Players may choose to resume the scenario at the marked Tales' Beginning with the following exceptions:

*If you have placed the [[Seekers of Adoulin]] opening scene on hold and your current mission progress matches any of the following situations below, you will be unable to start the scenario using Tales' Beginning from each NPC. (You can start it from the [[Melody Minstrel]] NPC, however.)
**Speak to [[Darcia]] in [[Lower Jeuno]] (H-7) and select "I would like to apply." in order to trigger the [[Seekers of Adoulin]] mission [[The Geomagnetron]].
**Speak to [[Darcia]] in [[Lower Jeuno]] (H-7) and purchase an [[Adoulinian charter permit]] in order to trigger the [[Seekers of Adoulin]] mission [[Onward to Adoulin]].
**Acquire the [[Geomagnetron]] from the [[Rhapsodies of Vana'diel]] mission [[The River Runs Red]].

Tales' Beginnings appear similar to [[Survival Guide]]s, though they have a distinct glow and are only visible to the player who has a Scenario on hold. Tales' Beginnings may be located at the following locations:
